CoopNuggiKino, das baby-freunliche Kinovergnügen

As fall is here and winter around the corner, you might find this place a good indoors activity if you enjoy going to the movies. We have not been there yet, so I can not comment any further. However, if you have had or are going next Sunday (it seems that it runs the first Sunday of every month) then please share your experience.

Note, your baby should not be older than 12 months.

La Leche league meeting

Thursday, September 28th, 2006

La Leche league, Kilchberg and Zürich

If you are planning or are breast feeding your baby now, you may enjoy the chats from this group. From my own experience, it helped me to share ideas and sometimes issues that came along when you breast feed.

Advantages:

Every time that I have attended these kind of meetings, I feel good because I can identify myself with many of the topics and problems discussed.

Breast feeding brings many questions for a mother, specially a new one, and this group helps you to realize that you are not the only one that has these questions.

Disadvantages:

As everyone share their breast feeding experiences, you might find some mothers that have inflexible and extreme opinions about how and when to stop breast feeding. However, as one of the organizer once said, take what suits your situation and opinions and leave the rest.

Muki-Treff

Muki-Treff, Mütter mit Kleinkindern

I was encouraged to attend to this group by one of my (few) Swiss friends who lives in Wädenswil as well. At the beginning, I was not keen to attend due to the fact that I am not very fluent in the Swiss German dialect. However, I went and found out that it is actually a very nice way to meet Swiss people.

Advantages:

As I said, it helps you to integrate more into the Swiss culture. The majority of the attending mothers appreciate the effort that you put to be willing to know more about this country, its language and people.

Your baby meet future playmates or classmates if you plan to stay for a long period of time within your actual living area.

Disadvantages:

It can be quite intimidating to be the only foreign who cannot speak and understand full conversations. However, it is worth a try.

Traumfrau Mutter

Traumfrau Mutter, MusicHall Zürich
21 November – 3 December 2006

Diapers, a wee bit of sex and other catastrophes are the topics of this musical. It seems that it focus on the diary life of a new mother. Mark your calendar if you feel like.

Chilbi in Rüschlikon

Thursday, September 28th, 2006

29 September- 1 October

One of the things that I love from Switzerland are “Chilbis” (Town Fair). Mark your calendar if you feel like going for a “Raclette” or any sugar fix in Rüschlikon.

Sing and Sign

Sing and Sign, Switzerland

As we have attended just one class, I will write for now a temporarily review. It might change as the course progress.

Advantages:

I found out that this course is actually very popular among mothers with babies and toddlers. So, it is a very good chance to meet mothers and babies.

The class is also very engaging as the instructor makes it very fluid.

Several mothers that had taken previously the course enrolled again as they though it was a very nice course.

Disadvantages:

I could notice my baby got distracted by the middle of the class. Also, I was told by some mothers that had already taken the course that younger babies are not that interested in the signing as toddlers, so you might wait for this course if your baby is still under seven months.

Mothering Matters

Mothering Matters, Parenting in Switzerland

Advantages:

This bi-monthly publication focuses in English speakers parents living in Switzerland. It has helped both my husband and myself to know that we are not alone and share the same worries, problems and ideas that any other foreign parent living in Switzerland.

It contains good tips such as nurseries, playing groups, etc.

Disadvantages:

I just have received the first issue of this publication. As time goes by, I can bring more information about it.
